چکیده
Abstract The exclusive presence of ? -D-ribofuranose in nucleic acids is still a conundrum prebiotic chemistry, given that pyranose species are substantially more stable at equilibrium. However, precise characterisation the relative furanose/pyranose fraction temperatures higher than about 50 °C lacking. Here, we employ combination NMR measurements and statistical mechanics modelling to predict population inversion between furanose equilibrium high temperatures. More importantly, show steady temperature gradient may steer an open isomerisation network into non-equilibrium state where boosted beyond limits set by thermodynamics. Moreover, demonstrate nonequilibrium selection maximum optimal dissipation, as gauged energy barriers for isomerisation. predicted optimum compatible with drops found hydrothermal vents associated extremely fresh lava flows on seafloor.

Non-equilibrium pattern selection in particle sedimentation
In this paper, we explain some well known experimental observations in fluid solid interaction from a thermodynamic perspective. In particular we use the extremum of the rate of entropy production to establish the stability of specific patterns observed in single and multiparticle sedimentation in an infinite fluid and the sedimentation of spheres in the presence of walls. While these phenomena...
متن کاملColloidal gels: equilibrium and non-equilibrium routes
We attempt a classification of different colloidal gels based on colloidcolloid interactions. We discriminate primarily between non-equilibrium and equilibrium routes to gelation, the former case being slaved to thermodynamic phase separation while the latter is individuated in the framework of competing interactions and of patchy colloids. Emphasis is put on recent numerical simulations of col...
متن کاملObservability and Equilibrium Selection
We explore the connection between shock observability and equilibrium. When aggregate shocks are unobserved the rational expectations solutions remain unchanged if contemporaneous aggregate outcomes are observable, but their stability under adaptive learning must be reconsidered. We obtain learning stability conditions and show that, provided there is not large positive expectational feedback, ...
متن کاملEquilibrium and Non-equilibrium Quantum Field Theory
We first focus in Chapter 2 on infrared effects in finite–temperature quantum field theory. We propose a simple mathematical method (based on the largest–time equation and the Dyson–Schwinger equations) which allows systematic calculations of the change of density in energy/particles in heat–bath during a scattering/decay of external particles within the heat bath. A careful analysis reveals th...
